Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (UK) is one of over 600 NHS Trusts. Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, based in north-west London, was formed in October 2007 as a merger between Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust and St Mary’s Healthcare NHS Trust. It is made up of the following hospitals:

• Charing Cross Hospital
• Hammersmith Hospital
• St Mary’s Hospital
• Queen Charlotte's & Chelsea Hospital
• The Western Eye Hospital

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is a busy acute trust with a very strong history of education and research. It is the UK’s first Academic Health Sciences Centre and the largest NHS Trust in the UK. Charing Cross and St Mary’s Hospitals are undergraduate teaching hospitals and Hammersmith is a post graduate teaching hospital, famous for its research achievements. Queen Charlotte's is world renowned for its maternity and women's and children's services.

Imperial College London has a campus on all three main sites and provides close links with all the clinical specialties. The Medical Research Council (MRC) is also based at Hammersmith Hospital providing a strong foundation for clinical and scientific research.

Ann is a pharmacist who has worked at Hammersmith Hospital (now part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust) since 1987 and has been Chief Pharmacist since 1995. In 2000 Ann became the joint-chair of the Centre for Medicines Safety and Service Quality (formerly known as the Academic Pharmacy unit) - a joint venture between the Trust and The School of Pharmacy University of London. Ann is responsible for the pharmacy services at Charing Cross, Hammersmith and Queen Charlottes and Chelsea Hospitals.

SafeChemo gives a real opportunity to move cytotoxic compounding into the 21th century. Since hospital pharmacy began cytotoxic work in the 1980’s in the UK we have seen little development to help us deal with the increasing pressures arising from the successful development of new therapeutic approaches. SafeChemo is an exciting and novel solution for us to be working in a partnership to develop!
